Temperament & Personality

Social, cheerful, and energetic. They are intelligent little birds that are relatively easy to tame and can become very affectionate with their owners.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Can be excellent talkers, with some males learning hundreds of words. Their voices are fast and high-pitched. Both sexes are great at whistling and chattering.

Dietary Needs

A high-quality pelleted diet should form the base. Supplement with a variety of fresh vegetables (leafy greens, shredded carrots) and a small amount of fruit. Seed should be a treat, not a staple.

Health & Lifespan

Can live 5-15 years. Prone to tumors, liver problems (often diet-related), and scaly mites on the beak and feet. A clean cage and a healthy diet are crucial.

Housing Requirements

Perfect for apartments. They are small and quiet. A cage that is wider than it is tall is best, with a minimum size of 18"W x 18"D x 18"H, but bigger is always better.
