Temperament & Personality

Have a classic 'big macaw' personality in a small body. They are intelligent, playful, and can be very affectionate, but are also known for being feisty and nippy if not well-trained.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Fairly good talkers. They can learn a decent vocabulary and their voices are higher-pitched than larger macaws.

Dietary Needs

A balanced diet of high-quality pellets, fresh vegetables, some fruit, and a limited amount of nuts.

Health & Lifespan

A hardy species that can live 20-30 years. Still susceptible to common psittacine diseases. Can become cage-aggressive if not handled regularly.

Housing Requirements

A roomy cage is still necessary. Minimum size of 24"W x 24"D x 36"H. Can be suitable for apartments if the owner can tolerate their noise level.
