Temperament & Personality

Extremely intelligent, loud, and demanding. They are known for being particularly energetic and 'over the top,' even for a cockatoo. Require a very experienced owner.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Can be good talkers, but their screaming often overshadows any talking ability. They are excellent at getting attention with their voice.

Dietary Needs

A low-fat pelleted diet is crucial. Supplement with a wide variety of fresh vegetables. Avoid high-fat seeds and nuts.

Health & Lifespan

Can live 60-80 years. Very prone to behavioral problems like feather plucking and screaming if not kept constantly stimulated and engaged. Produces a lot of feather dust.

Housing Requirements

Absolutely not for apartments. A very large, walk-in aviary is better than a cage. If caged, it must be huge and incredibly strong. Minimum 48"W x 36"D x 72"H.
