Temperament & Personality

Very calm, sweet, and gentle. They are not as hyperactive as budgies and enjoy climbing more than flying. They have a comical way of walking and enjoy being held and petted.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Can learn to talk, and their voices are surprisingly clear for their size. They are not screamers and prefer to chatter quietly.

Dietary Needs

A high-quality pelleted diet is recommended. They enjoy fresh vegetables and fruits, especially berries. Because they enjoy climbing, foraging toys are a great way to provide food.

Health & Lifespan

Hardy birds with a lifespan of 10-15 years. Can be prone to respiratory issues if their environment is not clean. Also susceptible to polyomavirus.

Housing Requirements

Large flight cage with horizontal space for climbing. Bar spacing should be 1/2 inch. Provide multiple perches at different heights and textures. Temperature tolerance: can handle cooler temperatures better than most parrots.
